We are Karuna, We are here to Help Heal Prevent
Project Karuna works under the wings of RM Trust
Karuna seeks to establish a strategic research and evidence based mental health awareness, prevention and early intervention program among various school age children ranging between 12-17 years of age and youth. Statistics show that the onset of major psychological disorders like depression and anxiety starts at this age which may lead to serious issues in later part of their lives. Therefore, Karuna seeks to bring this program to various educational institutions with focus across this age group.
Our Mission
Making mental health amongst children more treatable, acceptable and detectable.
Our Vision
Stride towards breaking the stigma, recognizing the urgency, embracing interventions and aspiring for a robust tomorrow.
Our Philosophy
Transforming mental health through education, counseling and nutritional healing.
Filling the Gap
Much work has been done towards cure and prevention of mental health, yet there exists a huge gap between the need and the provision. This is in part, due to the lack of awareness and education regarding both the prevention and detection of mental health issues as well as the available solutions. Karuna seeks to fill this gap.
Karuna uses a two-pronged approach to mental health. Our core belief hinges on the mind body connection- a sound mind resides in a sound body and vice versa.
In order to conduct psychological evaluation, a battery of age appropriate psychological standardized tests will be administered. Based upon the test scores, major areas of concern will be identified followed by appropriate counseling. Karuna seeks to target detection of neurotic disorders at early age and intervene before these become major issues in adult life.
In order to address the aspect of physical health, the children, parents and educators will be taught how diet and lifestyle affect brain development and neural function and dysfunction. Nutritional counseling will be provided to help support brain function and overall mental health.
Karuna recognizes the need to refer out to specialized professionals, when interventions outside its scope are required.
